I am thankful for so many things and even though this time of year may be bittersweet for some, including myself, there is always joy surrounding us! To be surrounded by family and friends (near and far), and LOVE…it doesn’t get any better than that!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you for being a part of this journey!

Montgomery Running - My Pretty Brown

Family, Food, Football—A House Divided

*peeks in and looks around*

Whew! I had to wait a few days and recover from the holiday/Iron Bowl Weekend before I posted.

On Thanksgiving morning, I was so excited about heading to Montgomery (aka The Gump) to spend time with my HB’s family. After the recent passing of one of his favorite Uncles, that was just what the doctor ordered. It’s the little things. We figured on the way out we’d grab some Chick-fil-a, but of course they were CLOSED! I always want Chick-Fil-a when they are closed, which is usually Sunday’s. Womp! I think that’s a mind game they play with us loyal customers. Anyhoo…we found some grub and kept it moving!

mifamiliaI was so excited to see everyone! There’s nothing like family–and this is not all of us!

Since I was in The Gump, I figured I should meet up with Black Girls RUN! (Montgomery Chapter) to “Preserve My Sexy”. You know ya girl had to work off all that dressin’ and pecan pie. This was my first run since the Magic City Half. It was a great, chilly morning for a post-Thanksgiving I-Already-Ate-The-Turkey Trot! I was given a mini-tour of downtown Montgomery thanks to my lovely Soror/BGR-MGM Ambassador, Cecily!

You can’t have an Iron Bowl Party without good eats! There was SO MUCH food! Everything was delish! My HB seriously makes the best pasta ever. I’m working on him to see if I can share the recipe! :)

jezzybrowniesMy infamous Slutty Brownies, found here, made an appearance. Please excuse how they look…that’s how they got their name! *wink* I made TWO pans and they didn’t stand a chance.

unnamedA few of the cousins. They are always talking trash! They are Michigan fans. Go Blue!–I guess…

Let me just say, if you are an Alabama fan in this family, you are totally outnumbered! I didn’t see that win coming, but…Congratulations to the Auburn Tigers…Roll Tide and Go Blazers!

Thanksgiving Rewind: Sick and Shut In Edition

imageLovely collage created by my awesome nephews, Preston and Winston!

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! You’ve probably noticed I haven’t posted in a minute…I’ve been sick and shut in. I’m feeling much better now…thank God! I was quarantined last night*side eye* lol but I guess it helped!

I enjoyed the holiday with my family and ate pretty good, but I almost feel like I need to redo Thanksgiving dinner, because I couldn’t indulge like my normal self. Everyone else did eat good!

imageI made a few sweet potato pies! This is the before pic. Sorry there’s no after they got demolished! lol I also made a Butter Pecan cake…Mmmm mmmm!

Oh and my Dressing was OTDC! Yes it was that good! Of course this wasn’t all…we had the works! And my Mom’s Macaroni and cheese was heavenly!

imageWent by Earth Fare to look for E-Boost, but they only had Emergen-C! Gave em’ a try, didn’t really see a difference probably, because my cold got too for along.

imageI cheered for the Alabama Crimson Tide (from the couch)! It was still good times all around.

I’m super excited about the Christmas holiday season I can’t wait to see what Santa brings! ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!!!!  I have looked forward to this day for quite some time. There’s just something about the holidays that just make me happy! I even put in some extra work to prepare. In the past, I really didn’t care about working out, but this year I made sure I did. I fixed my Thanksgiving plates early and now I’m ready! But…

Thanksgiving is not just about eating, it’s truly about being thankful for the blessings we have as well as giving back.  There is no set way to do these things, but I truly look forward to spending time with my family and friends. I’m a little sad, because I will miss my sister who lives in Los Angeles with her hubs and my sweet nephew.  I am excited because my Mom will be riding out with me and my fiancé to The Gump (Montgomery, AL) to spend Thanksgiving with his fam! I already KNOW this is going to be a super, great time!

I watched I Heart Radio on VH1 while I packed. Finally done! Tomorrow, well today, we have a lot planned…really the rest of the week. I can’t forget a little Black Friday shopping, because I’m in search for a Juicer! I’m also ready for some FOOTBALL! Saturday is Iron Bowl 2011 (The Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Auburn Tigers). My fiancé’s Mom is throwing a block party and we MUST squeeze in some out-on-the-town festivities! Can you say excited!?

I hope you all have a fun-filled and wonderful Thanksgiving Day! Enjoy…and ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!

Fixing My Thanksgiving Plates Early

Happy Thanksgiving Week!!!!!!

I have so much to be thankful for and this is such exciting time to come together with family, friends, and loved ones! This is the season of giving and being thankful for each and every blessing. One of my blessings that I’m thankful for is the support, inspiration, and motivation from so many on my journey to a healthier and fit life.

Shedding L-B’s and being fit is always a good thing, but not without hard work!  I’m fixing my Thanksgiving “plates” early! Yep that’s right. I’m going to make sure I don’t cheat myself by slackin’ on my workouts. I’ve got the cardio down, but I’ve been hesitating about going up completely on my weight in my strength training class. I am not a slacker! I’ve been slowly increasing, but now it’s time to “Just Do It”!

I believe if you work hard, you play harder! I’m going to enjoy every single thing my heart desires. I don’t do diets, besides they don’t work and I don’t believe in depriving myself! Baked turkey or fried, pear or sweet potato pie – don’t worry it will be consumed! Don’t think I’m a total “Mikey” I do practice moderation. lol But yes…I will enjoy some good eating over this holiday. The next few days I will be going “hard in the paint” as some may say…but it will be worth it!
