Who would have thought that a year ago today that I would have written over 100 posts!? I initially started my blog as “Pretty Brown Naturals” to share my natural hair journey (I’ve been natural over six years strong btw). Along the way, I discovered that it was much more to me than just that! There’s so many natural hair bloggers anyway, and I change my hair so much I don’t think there’s enough server space to hold my posts. Lol Kidding! But, I do love to thrift, I love fashion, reading, oh and cooking! And yes…much, much more!!!

I just want to thank every single person who has read my blog, commented, shared, subscribed, and even been inspired by my posts. Whether it was trying a recipe, a hairstyle, or reading about my crazy day at the gym – thank you! I didn’t start blogging to gain a thing. Not money, popularity…just a place to share my thoughts and experiences in hopes that someone may be inspired! It’s actually kind of therapeutic for me too!

So thank you all, I appreciate you and I look forward to many years to come! I hope you will join me. Happy One Year Blogaversary to My Pretty Brown Blog!!!

I just returned from an awesome trip with my hubby! We rode the MegaBus to Memphis, TN and enjoyed dinner at one of my favorite spots, Texas de Brazil, and lots of fun on Beale Street! We just discovered that we obviously LOVE party cities! We had so much fun, and it allowed me to get caught up on my reading.

THE TIME HAS COME!!! I JUST finished the eighth installment of The Reverend Curtis Black Series: Love, Honor, and Betray by Kimberla Lawson Roby – just in time for the new release of her book, The Reverend’s Wife, which comes out Tuesday, May 1st (tomorrow…YAY)!!! I zipped through those books so fast. Ever since I read Casting the First Stone – I have been hooked! She is an amazing author and if you haven’t read any of her books, you need to get started STAT!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here’s an idea! I went to see Think Like A Man last weekend and it was SO GOOD!!!!!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end! I think I laughed the entire time. The movie made over 33 million opening weekend and I see why. The cast was outstanding!!! Now I’m interested in reading the book. Who cares that I’m married lol I still wanna read it! Steve Harvey obviously had a great vision. I definitely going to see it again!!!

In the meantime, I will be having a fun-filled weekend with a side of relaxation! I’m finishing up the last book of Kimberla Lawson Roby’s — Reverend Curtis Black Series: Love, Honor, and Betray. Just in time for the new release of her new book, due out May 1st, The Reverend’s Wife. She will be coming to my city for her book tour and I’m so excited! If you haven’t read any of her books, now is a great time to start!

Happy Friday!!!!

I’m so excited the weekend is finally here! I went to sleep early last night and found myself wired at 3 a.m.! With a crazy schedule, I’ve been slow on my reading — so I was determined to finish my book. Sin No More by Kimberla Lawson Roby was SO GOOD! Full of tons of surprises and wackos…I couldn’t wait to get to the end so I can see what was gonna happen next in the life of good ol’ Reverend Curtis Black!

A man who once thrived on wickedness and counted on forgiveness, Curtis Black has changed his ways. Back in the heart of his congregation and his family, he will no longer stray from the beaten path. Or so he’s promised his long-suffering wife, Charlotte.

But the sins of the past have strange ways of coming to light. First, Curtis’s former mistress shows up with their newborn baby daughter—named Curtina—and insists that Curtis be a part of their lives. Charlotte has forbidden her husband to have anything to do with them, but the trouble is, Curtis’s newfound conscience is leading him to have uncomfortable thoughts of responsibility.

I’m almost done with the series and will be totally ready for the new release (The Reverend’s Wife) coming out May 1st! I just recently finished two great books by Carl Weber — Something On The Side and Big Girls Do Cry Let me just say…you have six women…all fly.funky.full of curves…and FABULOUS! We all know that when you put more than two women together, somethin’ interesting will pop off. Love, Friendship, Sex, Lies, and Betrayal…just to name a few.

Whew!!! I said I wasn’t going to read anymore books by the same author back to back, but I got caught up. Now I’m on a third book. DJM! Anyhoo…Carl Weber’s book following The Preacher’s Son was a train wreck! No…the book was great, but the characters were a mess! The title of the book, The First Lady says it all! Maybe you’ve never witnessed it… but picture a church, with a prominent Pastor, Bishop. Minister, etc. and a million women desperate for the affection and attention of the leader! Some people may call it “Attention-whoring” — because we know everybody’s motive is not genuine — Just sayin’! We ALL have probably witnessed similar scenarios or know of someone who has at some point or another, especially in the black church. The lengths that women will go to gain the heart ~~or wallet~~ of someone in a high position. This book will create a picture perfect reality. I do applaud any “First Lady”…because I’m sure it’s a big responsibility. Real life issues, vices and challenges that many people deal with in everyday life will also unfold. It was really a good read. I’m looking forward to reading more of his work. Check it out!

I finally got around to reading the work of author, Carl Weber, for the first time and I was impressed! I have been hearing about his work from a few friends of mine for a while. I came across some of his NOOK books on sale and decided to give them a try.

The Preacher’s Son was explosive in every way! It dropped bombshell after bombshell. The timeline of a highly esteemed Bishop at the center of an African-American church along with his family — tests of faith, dealing with temptations in various forms, all while dealing with the realities of life. I was able to relate to almost every single character in this book in some form or another. You know how it goes, we all know “that” somebody.

I don’t want to tell too much and spoil it, but it is definitely worth reading. I’m now reading the second part to this book, The First Lady. I can’t wait to see how this story will unfold. If you decide to read it or have read it let me know what you think!
