Even Supergirl Gets Surprised!

The month of December has come with a lot of unexpected blessings. The Hoka One One Team was gracious enough to send me a card and a few coupons for my next purchase for myself and a friend! Well, I did just that. I decided on the Hoka Conquest. I’ll share a review of these in the upcoming weeks. I also have the Stinson Lite and Stinson ATR (trail). These shoes rock in ALL departments, especially the colors. It’s rare for me to find a running shoe with a super rad color combo! Thank you, HOKA ONE ONE!

Countdown to runDisney!

Disney fans know what this cute, little package means! Our Magic Bands arrived last week! After receiving them, I was overwhelmed with excitement, happiness, anxiousness–and everything in between. Race day is almost here!

Holiday Eats!

Okay, so I surprised myself with this one. I posted to my Instagram how I was making something fun! A few people guessed what it was, and they were right! It was Peppermint Bark! I never thought I would make it myself–but, why not? From here on out, I will be making my own peppermint bark during the holiday season. Yes, that’s the only time of year that I indulge in this chocolatey-minty goodness!

Spreading Christmas Cheer!

I surprised my HB with his first Road ID! He was very excited and I made his Road ID even “cooler” by adding a 13.1 badge since he completed his first half marathon in September. Everyone needs to be as safe as possible while out on a run, bike ride, hike, walk etc–especially if you happen to get your activities in solo. Find out about the inspiration behind Road ID here. Get one! Trust me, you’ll never leave home without it.

Here I am cheesing from ear to ear on Christmas morning after my HB surprised me with this big, gift box! I couldn’t help but feel like Supergirl after lifting it. You see those guns? Rrrawwwwr! By the way, how cute are these Supergirl jammies? I posted here about footed pj’s being on my list of holiday favorites.

*Pause* You know I had to show off the cape! EPIC-NESS!

So here’s what was inside the big box–it’s a Foot & Calf Massager! I seriously stalked this thing for months! I didn’t even tell Santa I wanted it for Christmas. Santa said he noticed how hard I’ve worked over the past 20+ weeks with my training and felt I deserved it. What’s even more awesome about it–I can change the settings from my smartphone app. How cool is that? Best. Massage. Ever! Thank you again, Santa!

Clearly, someone loves it as much as I do!CCCC

It was a Post-Festivus celebration on the pavement!

I decided to get my long run in on Friday instead of Saturday (due to possible rain). I’m so glad that I did. After those 12 miles, I’m starting to see the light! It was a gorgeous day.  Sometimes you have to adjust your schedule to ensure that you stick to your training. run

Lazy Saturday Eats!

For breakfast Saturday morning I decided to make one of my favorites: Sausage Quiche! It was the perfect easy-meal for a lazy Saturday.  You can find the recipe here. It was football and The Wire marathon…ALL day long!

Did you have a great month of December and holiday season? This year truly went by so fast. I can’t believe 2015 is almost here! I will be sharing my 2014 “moments” soon!

Art’s Holiday Favorites & Wishlist!

Christmas is right around the corner! Are you getting excited? I sure am! I love this time of year for so many reasons.

Everyone has a list of holiday favorites. Here are a few of mine!

  • The Ultimate Motown Christmas Collection, A Soulful Christmas, and the Chipmunks Christmas Carols are my favorite tunes to listen to this time of year! The Chipmunks make you feel like a kid again while the Motown/Soulful Christmas albums bring back memories of my Mom and Dad dancing and singing to songs like “Gee Wiz It’s Christmas” and “This Christmas”.
  • A Christmas Story, Charlie Brown Christmas, The Sound of Music, and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) are just a few of my favorite movies. I know there are many more!
  • I recently found a Peppermint Chocolate version of my favorite egg nog, Evan Williams Egg Nog. Disclaimer: You must be of legal drinking age to consume. Drink responsibly. It’s deliciously, smooth and the perfect addition this time of year. Peppermint Bark, Peppermint Mocha coffee, K-cups, and/or creamer are also a must! Clearly, I have an obsession with anything minty and chocolatey this time of year! Well, really anything sweet. Can you blame me?  It’s the holidays! Check out my favorite holiday edition brownies here. ‘Tis the Season!

  • Giving Back! The Angel Tree is a great way to help bring joy and hope into the life of a child for Christmas!
  • Footed Adult Jammies! I absolutely love my footed jammies or what some call “onesies”. It’s so comfie and every adult needs one.
  • Elf on the Shelf! Where were these cute, little elves when I was growing up? I’m not a parent (yet), but Elf on the Shelf is such a fun way to bring Christmas cheer into the lives of everyone! My nephews received their first visit this year from their friend, Arnie the Elf! I love the fact that they chose to name him after me. So cute! Every time I see pictures of the shenanigans that Arnie is up to, I literally burst out into laughter! As you can see, Arnie is demanding a piggy-back ride from Ninja Turtle Mikey.

This year I didn’t really have a holiday “wishlist”. To be honest, Christmas came early for me. Don’t get me wrong, I can always think of something that I would like. Does winning the Mega Millions count? I would surely take a winning in a heartbeat! If I had to choose something, it would have to be a heating foot and calf massager . After my workouts and runs, my legs need a good massage. The foam roller does a great job, but it would be so much nicer if I could just sit back, relax and enjoy. I saw one at Brookstone retailing for $599.00. Yikes! Then, I went to Amazon and found this Kendal Shiatsu brand and loved the price so much more. It had great reviews too. Here’s one similar. I didn’t have time to really test one out, so I will definitely do that before committing to adding it to my list.

That’s about it! Do you have any holiday favorites, recipes, traditions? Don’t forget to check out my Live Well 360 fitness bag review here, and save 15% on your purchase. What’s on your holiday wishlist? Share them!

Magic City Running, Football Family, & Furry Friends

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I haven’t posted in a minute so this recap will be all over the place. Training is going well. I have my second to the last big training (long) run this weekend. Less than 40 days until the big day! So excited (and nervous)!

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, I helped volunteer at the Magic City Half Marathon with my running group. I ran it last year, but this was my first volunteer experience and I really enjoyed it! We were the first water stop for the runners, so it went by so fast! I was happy to cheer on so many friends, runners, and walkers participating in the race. It was raining on and off and I was hoping I wouldn’t get sick. I wanted to enjoy my Thanksgiving eats! A few sniffles, but nothing a Hot Toddy and some meds couldn’t fix.

I was so excited to see my sweet friend, Kristin (aka BamaGirlRuns), pass by during the race! She is such a sweetheart and one of the reasons why I started to run Disney! She is the Queen of Race Selfies and she makes running so much fun! LOVE-HER!

Training didn’t stop for the holidays. Thanksgiving Eve I had 8 miles to complete. I know, it was rough out there dealing with the wind and having a cold–but I got it done! Glory to God!

Hello Gump Town! The Gump is another name for Montgomery, AL (not sure why). Maybe I’ll get on that. Downtown Montgomery is a beautiful place to run, so of course Thanksgiving morning I had to get it in. I’m planning to run the Montgomery Half Marathon in March. I can’t wait! They will also be bringing the inaugural full marathon to tour the city.

Here is my mini-tour of my Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning!

Right before Thanksgiving dinner! Just the girls + Cousin Love!

Okay, so Black Friday I opted NOT to hit the streets and get tangled up in that mess of a crowd. A few years ago, my sister and I were shopping from 2:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. and I vowed to never do that again. Online shopping or catching sales the days following is what I do. I did manage to get a few items that I wanted. I found a $9 waffle maker (still on sale from Black Friday) and a heated throw. My baby Sis-in-Love has one and I fell in love with it!

Rivalry Week, Iron Bowl Saturday (Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Auburn Tigers) for us, I had to make everyone’s favorite–Slutty Brownies! You can find the holiday edition to this amazingly, delicious recipe here.

Speaking of football…if you haven’t heard all over the news and on ESPN–The University of Alabama at Birmingham (my Alma Mater) football program got cut. I’m absolutely heartbroken by this news. It’s just not right. Please visit here and sign the petition to help SAVE our football team and the other athletics affected! Those students, coaches, and staff…DESERVE a chance! I still believe we can do it! This is bigger than football, bigger than athletics. It’s about being selfless and being a light for the world to see. Go Blazers! You can show support by helping us get the word out and by adding #FreeUAB #SaveUABFootball to your hashtags on social media.

To end on a happier note, how sweet is this little, Love Muffin? Isn’t she the cutest!? This is Kashmir, my cousin’s baby girl. My HB and I have been discussing adopting a sweet face just like hers. She was getting all the love and we were getting all of the puppy kisses. As you can see my HB and Mom adored her!

That about sums up the happs over the past few weeks! Did you catch any great Black Friday deals? Are you getting excited about Christmas? I sure am!

Until next time…Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas Eve! Yep, I’m Still At It…

xmaseveI’m just now sitting down to take a breather from running around. Got all my shopping done Thank God, Publix stayed open long enough for me to pick up my “oops I forgot” item (celery) for my dressing, UPS just delivered my package as promised–now I’m listening to R&B Christmas Classics and sippin’ on Egg Nog.

I’ve really enjoyed this holiday season and I’m excited about what is to come! I’m so glad my Sister came home, even for a short while.  I even visited some cool places and attended some really great events.

menlisaMy friend Lisa and I visited Whoville!

It’s amazing what light to a dark world can do!

…now it’s time to get started cooking! Merry Christmas Eve everyone!!!

A Special Delivery Plus One

meandsissy3This past weekend I received a special delivery (+1)! My Sissy came home for a short visit and words cannot begin to tell you how ecstatic I was to see her. A few years ago, she moved to the West Coast with her family. There’s been a few visits here and there, but there’s nothing like the convenience of getting in your car to drive to see each other. We have always been extremely close (best friends), so it has been a huge adjustment. I miss her, my sweet nephews, and my bro-law immensely–but it only gives me a great excuse to visit–which is already in the works for 2014! Having the opportunity to see her, get lots of hugs and kisses (yes, we still do this), and laughs was the best Christmas gift EVER! We had to cram everything she wanted to do into one day–meaning going to all of her favorite spots, a new dessert (coming soon), spending time with family, and church.

While she was here, she wanted to visit our church! She has heard me talk about Church of the Highlands for some time now and couldn’t wait to visit!

sissynmeaArrived in time to get great seats and our coffee fix! The message from Dino Rizzo was awesome. God’s Christmas gift to us… “He will save us, He is with us, & He is for us.” It doesn’t get any better than that!

meandsissy2Couldn’t leave without getting a “family photo” by the beautiful tree!

Seeing my Sister and Auntie’s Baby (almost ready to board) was a beautiful reminder of God’s love. Family is such a blessing and there’s nothing that can replace them. Love them, cherish them, and never take them for granted!

When Did You Get Here?

hellodecI can’t believe December is here! It seriously snuck up on me and my goodness–this is the last month in 2013! I’m looking forward to so many things in the upcoming weeks–Holiday cheer, concerts, The Chipmunks Christmas Carols (Yes, I still love them), peppermint mocha coffee, peppermint bark, and baking my favorite sweet eats like peppermint bark fudge, found here. I’m sure you see a trend here. The older I get, the more I appreciate this time of year. I get to spend time with family, go on a random Starbuck’s run for a Gingerbread Latte, or just relax in my Snuggie by the fireplace.

snowmanI found this cute, little mug at the Dollar Tree to go with my Mocha Mint Cappuccino. Cheers to the Holiday Season!

Looking for some great Christmas music? Check out Highlands Worship A Highlands Christmas-My King Is Here CD! You can find it here.

Let the countdown to Christmas begin! Do you have any plans for the holiday season?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!!! I’m so thankful for family and friends. This time of year is especially hard for those who have lost loved ones (including myself). May the peace of God be a comfort to everyone. My prayers are with those affected in Sandy Hook and their families, Mr. Han’s family, and many more.

Regardless of the reason…THIS season brings people together! There’s nothing like family time, amazing friends, giving, and just being thankful.

Enjoy and be blessed…for Jesus is the reason for the season!

Merry Christmas to all!!!
