I was sitting here reading Curly Nikki’s most recent post “I Greased My Hair and I Liked It” and it reminded me how sometimes we have to take it back to the old school. I’m always asked the question, “What do you use on your face?” Here recently, it’s been asked more often than I can count! Ms. New York, one of the ladies in my gym class, laughed when I told her what I used. She said, you use what?” [With this blank expression and slight smirk] — I said…”Dove and Ponds”, laughing at her expression. She said, “What you know about Ponds? That’s old school!” I snickered, because I knew she was right.

My Mom taught us early about Dove and my Sister and I have used nothing else since! Well that was until a little while ago. My Mom asked me recently what I had been using lately and even she laughed when I told her. First thing out her mouth was, “That’s what your Grandma Lue used!” I knew if Annie Lue Crews used it then it was a winner, because her skin was FLAWLESS! I started using Pond’s “Classic” Cold Cream, because my face was getting a little dry due to the weather. All I can say is…it is thebomb.com. My face feels so clean and refreshed after I use it! Throughout the week I usually wear very minimal make-up, if any, but if I have date night or go out with my girlfriends, I’ll put on some. Ponds is the best when it comes to taking make-up off or if you just need a good, deep clean. Occasionally, I’ll add a rotation of Cetaphil: Daily Facial Cleanser after I apply Ponds if my skin really needs it. For example, after a heavy workout, being outside for long periods of time, etc.
How I use it:
- I use one cotton round (make-up remover pad) to scoop out the Ponds Cold Cream to keep from putting my hands in the jar
- I scoop out the cream (you don’t need much) and apply it to my face
- I gently use my fingers and massage my skin/face (especially my eyes — to remove eye makeup)
- After a good application and massage I use a piece of tissue (Kleenex) to wipe off any residue
- Next, which is my fave part, I use a very warm cloth (or hot if you’re like me) and let it rest on my face to help open up the pores. I’ll literally let it sit there, because it feels SO GOOD and soothing on my skin!
- Last, I just let my face dry, then apply Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer
That’s really it! It makes me feel good to know that’s sometimes it’s just not that hard. If it worked for Mama and Grandmama…surely it’ll work for me!

Fresh Face!!!
